Overview:

      Port city in northeastern Sri Lanka. It is located on the North Bank of cordyar Bay, the largest natural harbor in China and a strategic location. Population 45000 (1981). It used to be an important British naval base in Asia (before 1957), and now it is the largest military, commercial and fishing port in China. The depth of the harbor is 36.6 meters. There are five docks in the port, which can berth large vessels. The throughput of the commercial port is not large, and it exports tea, mineral sand, agricultural and sideline products; Import grain, cement and industrial raw materials. There is a ship repair shop. The terminal of Colombo Trincomalee railway. There are national naval training schools and air force training bases. Beautiful scenery, tourist city. There is a thousand pillar temple with 1600 stone pillars. It has been destroyed, but the remains are still there.
