Overview:
Puerto de Lirquen is the largest private port in Chile. In the 1950s, it became a commercial port for liners to call directly. At first, it mainly transported coal, phosphate rock and sugar. In the early 1990s, the port began to serve container ships.
The private port of Lilquin is the main public service port in Chile. It is located in Concepción, in the Bio Bio area, 500 kilometers south of the Gulf of Santiago, Chile. Its main shareholders are Yaguang Group Corporation (71.3%) and Anzi Business Group Corporation (23.3%).
Lierkun Port today has an operating capacity of nearly 7 million metric tons-cubic meters, thanks to its 6 berths, the area of the wharf and cargo hold is the largest in the area, which is combined with its staff, equipment and technology. We make it one Efficient multifunctional terminal.
Lierquin Port can be traced back to the middle of the last century, when it was decided in the spring of 1953 to extend the berth in the mining area to allow ships to berth directly, thus avoiding the use of barges for coal loading . Initially, charcoal was loaded and unloaded through the port, and phosphate and sugar bags from the mine were shipped.
The coal shipment was completed shortly afterwards and was converted into bulk cargo of wheat and chemical fertilizer in 1958, which was replaced by this latest product from the United States. At the same time, some years later they shipped the first batch of wood, paper and pulp. Since then, forest products have become the main cargo in the area, and the Port of Lilquin has become a driving force for other ports, such as the San Vicente Port, the Port of Talcahuano, which were subsequently built in 1974, and the Coroné, which began operation in 1996. Port.
In 1984, the cargo volume from Pier 1 to Pier 4 tripled within a year, and in 1989 it exceeded the operating cargo volume of 2 million tons for the first time. With the expansion of the terminal, it is also necessary to activate the operation of new codes and the continuous growth of the warehouse to receive and store the volume of goods and the purchase of new equipment.
In the early 1990s, it started operating the first container service in Lierquin Port, which is a pioneer in container operations in the region. Since 1993, container handling in the region has continued to grow steadily.
In the same period, the forest industry began to produce high value-added products, such as boards, wood drying and remanufacturing are generally taking advantage of the shipping trend of containers. There is also the roundwood market, where the dominant forest product in the region has almost completely disappeared in the latter part of the past decade. In addition , the draft length and width of the shipping company 's ships are getting larger and larger.
All these changes involve infrastructure and port equipment, as the demand for cargo yards and yard areas increases; most importantly, to ensure timely container ship loading and unloading at berths, the scheduled routes must be met; owners through higher yields and greater needs The continued requirement for the hollowed-out part of the country authorized the operation of larger vessels.
Therefore, the two berths at Pier 2 built in 1995-1996 were subsequently widened to allow the two mobile cranes that were purchased for high-speed container handling in 2000 to operate; the new yard was established and the existing berth was established separately. Shop, pulp, wood drying, remanufacturing and circuit boards are mainly to build new warehouses; and important machinery parks are acquired to increase our operational capabilities. Finally, the gradual incorporation of modern technology enables safer and more efficient operation of every cargo from receipt to shipping.
In 2011, the port completed 314,950 TEU and 5,897,568 tons of cargo throughput.
