Karachi Port-Location

Karachi Port-Port Facilities
There are 17 berths on the southeast coast of the harbor basin. The total length of the terminal line is 2629 meters, and the front water depth is 8.5-9.7 meters. They are mainly used for loading and unloading of general cargo. Berths 5, 6, and 7 are also used for container loading and unloading, and berths 1 to 4 are also used for loading and unloading containers. Passenger transport. There are 5 oil berths in the port. In addition to Berth No. 20 of the West Wharf, there are also 2 oil jetties on the east side of the South Approach Channel of the East Wharf. The original oil jetty has 3 oil berths with a total length of 550 meters and a water depth of 11.8 meters along the side; the new oil jetty was built in 1978, with a length of 250 meters, and a reliable 75,000-ton tanker. In addition, there are 3 pontoon berths in the port area, which can accommodate 183-meter-long ships and barge moorings on the waterway outside the oil port area, and can berth 260-meter-long barges. There are about 30 berths in Hong Kong, with an annual throughput of more than 15 million tons, accounting for more than 90% of the country's incoming and outgoing cargo.
- Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) opened in 1996 at Berth 28-30 in the West Terminal. It has a throughput capacity of 300,000 standard containers, and handles 11-meter-long drafts of container ships each year. The total coastline is 600 meters long and is divided into two container berths. The terminal is equipped with three Panamax cranes and one super Panamax crane.

Hutchison Whampoa (Karachi) International Container Terminal has also achieved impressive results, with a throughput increase of 15.5%.
- Both Pakistan International Container Terminal and Hutchison Whampoa (Karachi) International Container Terminal are planning to expand. Pakistan International Container Terminal plans to invest 75 million U.S. dollars to expand the third phase of the terminal. The total coastline length will be increased to 600 meters, the draft will reach 13.5 meters, and the yard area will be 22 hectares. In March 2006, the terminal was equipped with a new type of bridge crane with an extension of 54 meters. In September of the same year, 4 bridge cranes and 10 site gantry cranes were added.
