Overview:
The Port of Fos Sur Mer (FR) is a town and port on the Mediterranean coast of France. Located in the Bay of Forth in the east of the Rhone Delta, it is less than 50 kilometers southeast of Marseille. In the center of the Foss-Bell Lake Industrial Zone, there are industries such as steel, metallurgy, and oil refining. The port has oil and ore dedicated terminals and container terminals .
The Port of Foss-sur-Mer (also known as Marseilles-Fos) is located on the Golf De Fos Golf Coast on the French Mediterranean coast, about 38 kilometers northwest of Massachusetts. The capital of ArcelorMittal Steel Works, Marina Bay is an industrial town. The steel industry has also attracted oil and chemical plants, making Foz Marina one of the most polluted towns in Europe. In 2005, nearly 16,000 people lived by the Marina Bay.
Foss-sur-Mer was first a small-scale fishery and village, but it has changed when a major industrial area was built nearby in the 1960s.
The Port of Foss-sur-Mer opened in 1968 and became the center of bulk and container transportation in Marseille. Its main imports come from refineries in the Fos and Etang-de-Berre lagoons. Other major imported products include coking coal, iron, and liquefied natural gas. The port of Foss-on-Sea is also home to some light-duty manufacturing and services. Although the development of Marina Bay’s port has not met expectations, there are many job opportunities in the area and surrounding areas. The "New Town" built in the north completely changed the old villages by the Marina Bay.
In 2008, the Marina Bay harbor handled nearly 90 million tons of bulk cargo. Compared with 2007, the number of passengers has also increased by 30%. As of the end of 2008, due to the world financial crisis, the freight volume (14 million tons) of freight was decreasing. Over the past year, the traffic volume of oil and dry and liquid bulk cargoes has increased.
The downturn in general cargo hit the sharp increase in container throughput, which dropped from 77 million tons in 2007 to 7.74 million tons in 2008. Ro-Ro cargo increased by 1% from 2007 to 4 million tons, but conventional cargo dropped sharply to 2.3 million tons. Due to the decline in demand for steel products, the electrical machinery industry has drastically reduced production.
In 2008, the Port of Forth Port processed 42 million tons of crude oil and 11.1 million tons of refined products in 2008. Liquefied natural gas traffic fell 1% to 3.7 million tons, and liquefied petroleum gas fell 5% to 1.7 million tons. The increase in coal imports supported a 12% increase in dry bulk cargo volume in 2008 to 13.5 million tons. Liquid bulk cargo has also increased to 3.4 million tons, and biofuels has increased to 800,000 tons, and the traffic volume has increased significantly.
In 2008, the number of cruises at the port of Foz, coastal province, increased significantly. Nearly two million people visited the port, which compensated for the decrease in ferry traffic. In 2007, the Marina Bay Port handled six million tons of railway and river cargo from Rhone-Saône, of which container cargo reached 127,000 TEUS.
In addition to the many beautiful beaches, the main attraction by the Marina Bay is the 10th century castle Hauture, which is one of the oldest castles in the area.
