The Port of Kinshasa is located on the east bank of the lower Congo River to the northeast of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The port is called PORT MAMA NGALU.

Kinshasa was called Leopoldville before 1966 and was historically the capital of the Belgian Congo. Independence in 1960, Belgian Congo became independent, and its capital was Kinshasa. Kinshasa is a modern African capital with a population of tens of millions. It is the political, economic, transportation and cultural center of the country.
Once a fishing village, Kinshasa is now a city with a population of more than 11 million in 2014.Kinshasa’s opposite the Congo River is adjacent to Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, and can be seen from the wide distance of the Congo River, making them the two closest capitals after Rome and Vatican City. Kinshasa is also one of the 26 provinces in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Due to the wide coverage of urban administrative boundaries, more than 90% of the province’s farmland is in rural areas, and the urban area is only a long section in the west of the city.
Kinshasa is the third largest city in Africa after Cairo and Lagos.It is also the largest "French" city in the world (recently surpassing the population of Paris), French is the language city of government, schools, newspapers, public services and high-end business, while Lingala is used as a lingua franca on the street.Kinshasa hosted the 14th Francophone Summit in October 2012.
The residents of Kinshasa are called Kinois (French, sometimes English) or Kinshasans (English). The indigenous people of the area include Humbu and Teke.
