Overview:
Kochin port (cochin port), is the main port in the Arabian Sea-Indian Ocean channel, is the largest port in India. The port is located on two islands in Kochi Lake: Lingdong Island and Vallarpadam, at the mouth of Fort Cochin, leading to the Arabian Sea. The International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), part of the Port of Cochin, is India’s largest container transshipment facility.
The port is under the jurisdiction of the Cochin Port Trust (CPT), a government established in India. Modern Port was established in 1926 and was completed and used in 1986.
The headquarter of Kochi Port is located in the port city of Kochi, which is one of the shipping related facilities. Others include Cochin Shipyard, the largest shipbuilding and maintenance facility in India; SPM (Single Point Mooring) equipment Kochi Refinery, offshore tanker mooring facilities; and Kochi Wharf.

The entrance to Cochin Port is through the Cochin Gorge Road between the peninsula headland Vypeen and Fort Cochin. Port restrictions extend to the entire backwater and connecting creeks and channels. The method channel to the Cochin Gorge Road is about 1,000 meters long, with a design width of 200 meters and a depth of 13.8 meters for maintenance dredging (currently 18 meters ICTT for dredging).
From the Gap Road, the channel is divided into the Modanje and Ernakulam channels, leading the west and east of Wellington Island respectively. In the form of piers, berths, piers and mooring streams along these channels have provided berthing facilities for ships.

The 38-foot draft is maintained at the Ernakulam passage and berthing facilities to bring large ships from the port together. The 30-foot draft in the Modanje Passage was maintained. Ports provide 24-clock pilot ships subject to certain restrictions on the scale and draft. There is also an efficient network of railways, roads, waterways and air routes, which are distributed in the state hinterland centers of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka connected to the Port of Cochin.
