Overview:

      Trieste is a port city in northeastern Italy. Located on the northeast coast of the Adriatic Sea, the northwest side of the Istra Peninsula, and the top of the Gulf of Trieste, 113 kilometers west of Venice, it is the intersection of Germanic, Latin and Slavic cultures in history.

      The maritime position of Trieste and its status as a part of Austria and Austria Hungary empire for a long time made the port of Trieste become the main commercial port in the vast land area of central Europe. In the 19th century, a new port area was built in the northeast of the city center, which is called the new port area.

      At present, the importance of Trieste as a port has declined. On the one hand, the city has been transferred to Italy, and Italy has a wide choice of ports with good berthing conditions. On the other hand, it is also due to the competition of the new port of Koppel in neighboring Slovenia. However, Trieste has always been an important container, steel and oil terminal commercial shipping port. The port is located in the south of the city center. After years of stagnation, the change of leadership has made the port enter a stable growth path. In 2007 alone, the growth value of ship transportation reached 40%.
